Marlins Swim Team News

Spring is just around the corner and that means the return of over 15,000+ swimmers from over 90 neighborhood teams will soon jump into 3 months of fun as part of the Northwest Aquatic League (NWAL).

In 2010, your Memorial Northwest Marlins Swim Team had over 235 swimmers of all ages from over 130 MNW families. After going undefeated during the regular season, the Marlins narrowly missed winning the NWAL C1 Divisional meet by less than 18 points out of 1,240 total points awarded.

Registration for the Memorial Northwest Marlins Swim Team will occur on April 2nd (Saturday 10-2pm) and April 6th (Wednesday 7-9pm) at the Memorial Northwest Community Center. The Marlin swim season begins May 2nd with daily after school practices. When school closes for the summer, the daily practices are usually held in the mornings.

All swim meets take place on Saturday’s beginning in the third week of May and last for six consecutive weeks. Approximately half of the meets are hosted at the MNW pool and the others are held at area neighborhood pools hosted by the competing team. The meets start with swimmer warm-ups at 7am and usually last till 1-2 pm. Younger swimmers complete their events usually before noon. The grand finale of the season is the Divisional Championship when all six teams come together to compete for the division title. All Marlins are encouraged to participate in all meets, and especially the Divisional meet.

In addition to the Saturday team meets, there are a number of optional meets in which the swimmers may compete. They include the All Star & Ponderosa invitationals, as well as Summer Thunder & the Pentathalon.

No swimming talent? No problem! The objective of NWAL is to promote competitive swimming and good sportsmanship. Many swimmers have never competed before or have limited swimming skills. The Marlin coaches work with each swimmer to develop proper swimming techniques and build confidence. The MNW Marlin Swim Team welcomes MNW residents between the ages of 4-18 yrs.

As with most of our children’s activities, the NWAL league teams are operated by parent volunteers. That requires parent involvement and support. The MNW Marlins elected Board of Officers are your friends and neighbors and are dedicated to coordinating the activities of the team. They are always looking for parents who are willing to help out in any way.

The Memorial Northwest Marlin Swim Team offers a great opportunity to build swim skills, stay active during the summer, make new friends & strengthen current friendships, become involved in your community, spend quality time with your entire family, participate in a fast paced exciting sport, even get a great tan ... but mostly, have tons of fun!!

Keep looking for Marlin swim team registration information starting in March at the MNW Clubhouse. And remember, swimmers who are 15 to 18 years old are FREE…Free to swim – keeping them fed still falls on under your budget.
