Memorial Northwest Community Center 2010
Marlins Swim Team News The Fightin’ Marlins Enjoy Another Successful Year The MNW Marlins swim team completed the 2010 NWAL summer league season 4-0 in dual meets and finished a close second (18 points) to the Colony Creek Mariners at the C1 divisional meet held on June 19 at Klein Collins High School. This year’s summer league swim season consisted of four dual meets and the divisional championship. The Northwest Aquatic League, or NWAL, is made up of 99 neighborhood teams with more than 14,000 swimmers, ranging from 3 to 18 years of age. The teams are divided into major geographic regions and subdivided further by strength of team. The Marlins compete in the Central Region in the top division. Besides the Fightin’ Marlins, this year’s C1 division included some great competitive teams from Colony Creek, Gleannloch Farms, Spring Creek Oaks, and Windrose subdivisions. This year the MNW Marlin swim team membership grew to 238 swimmers and 134 families -- our biggest team ever! We also had 72 first-year swimmers who decided to give swimming a try. The Marlin swim team is more than just swimming. We also have a lot of fun -- Friday night pizza socials with family relays, Splashtown Day, and just plain old socializing with friends and neighbors. The swimmers are also eligible to compete in additional Invitational Meets that have qualifying time standards. These meets are held at various Klein High Schools. This year the Fightin’ Marlins competed in the following meets: At the Summer Thunder VI Meet we had 68 swimmers compete and had several age group high point winners. At the 18th Annual Pentathlon Swim Meet we had 12 swimmers compete. The Pentathlon meet requires each swimmer to swim all four strokes and the individual medley event. At the 23rd All-Stars Championship Meet on June 26-27, 55 Marlins competed. This put the MNW Marlins team in the Division B category based on number of swimmers competing. After two days of intense swimming, the Marlins took home the 1st place trophy and had several age group high point winners. At the 40th Annual Ponderosa Invitational on June 26-27, the top invitational meet, 27 Marlin swimmers competed and we had numerous swimmers qualify for the evening finals.
