Memorial Northwest Men's "B" Tennis Team
Wins Championship!

After more than a dozen years of frustration, The Memorial Northwest Men's "B" team finally pulled off the improbable and won the leaguewide North Suburban Tennis League title by defeating a very tough opponent form River Plantation in the finals. To get there, the team of 9 players had to finish first in their division of 7 teams and did so by winning 47.5 points of a possible 60 during the regular season. All 9 players ended the season with winning records. Seeded first going to the playoffs, they faced the B team from Spring Creek Oaks on November 16th and put them to rest 5.5 points to 2. The finals were played on the rather chilly night of November 30th at our home courts. The men won 3 of 4 singles matches to start the night in front 3.5 points to 1.5. Needing to win only one of two remaining doubles matches, longtime team members Roger Flood and Hal Meyer left no doubt as to who the best team was as they secured the win by dominating line #2 doubles 8-4! The team would like to thank our resident tennis pros Gilberto Arcay and David McKinney for their support and the many fans who came out to cheer the team on.
Championship team members were: Captain, Mike Siegel; Dave Brassard; Roger Flood; Bob Kakarala; Gene Matar; Hal Meyer; Darwin Moore; Prasad Nunna; and Ken Weber. Next stop...A League Title!
