President's Message

February, 2010

Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Curbside Trash Collection begins April 1, 2010.  By majority vote of the subdivision, curbside 172 vs back door 149, we will switch to curbside only trash collection on April 1, 2010. Backdoor service will be discontinued after March 2010.  Recycling will continue as the vote was 183 in favor vs. 137 opposed.

The 2nd annual Tennis Benefit for the Avon Walk to benefit breast cancer research, will take place at the Community Center on 27 March, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please support this worthwhile event. See the details in this newsletter.

AARP Income Tax Assistance is available for free to low to middle income taxpayers with a special emphasis for those 60 years of age and older. This service is available from 1 February to 15 April at the Barbara Bush Library, on Monday from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday/Saturday from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. See www.aarp.org/taxaide or call 1-888-227-7669 for details and other locations for this service.

Easter Egg Hunt details will be posted on our website and in the next issue of this newsletter.

Swim Team Support. Last year 220 children participated on our Marlins Swim Team. At our February meeting your HOA Board approved $12,000 for the purchase of 5 new starting blocks to match the existing ones. These starting blocks will improve the safety, meet management software connectivity and give the  ability to start a race from either end of the pool which is  expected to reduce meet times by 30 to 45 minutes.  The blocks will last 20 years and can be relocated as required in the future.

Volunteers are needed to help with our Easter Egg Hunt, Splash into Summer celebration and our 4th of July Picnic. We urgently need a volunteer to organize our 4th of July picnic and volunteers to help with the event. We also need someone to volunteer to be considered for appointment to be Director of Area 7. Please contact me or any board member if you are interested in helping.

Significant Spending approved at our February Meeting includes $6000 for repairs to our esplanade irrigation valves damaged by our recent protracted freeze  and $12,000 to replace our broken diving stand with one constructed of stainless steel. We also approved renewal of our Consolidated Management Company’s contract for another 2 years for a minimal cost increase of just 3% which was the first increase in many years.

Architectural Control Committee (ACC) approval is required for all outdoor improvements to your property. This includes painting, roofing, building additions, storage sheds, fences, driveways, sidewalks, mailboxes, etc.  Please obtain approval prior doing any of these improvements. As is the case with several of our homeowners, if you don’t have ACC approval, you may have to repaint, reroof or redo or remove the “improvement”.

Remember: if you are replacing or repairing a fence, remember our deed restrictions are very specific on this issue. Fence pickets must be cedar; pine pickets are not acceptable.

Email “Blast” alert system. Our ongoing effort to keep our residents informed about important events and issues pertaining to MNW include our website (www.mnwcenter.com), this newsletter and an email “blast” list. If you would like to be included in the email “blast” list, please send your email address to memorialnw@comcast.net. We will not share your email address with any other organizations.

Our next Board of Directors meeting will be held on March 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center. I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Craig Chaszar
