Memorial Northwest Ladybugs Garden Club News

 By Diane Payne

The Ladybugs are making plans for a very exciting year in Garden Club, and they would like to invite you to their first meeting on Wednesday, September 22,  2010,  at 9:30 a.m. at the MNW Ccommunity Center, 17440 Theiss Mail Route.  Following the lovely refreshments, the second half of the meeting will be comprised of a Vacation Auction, a reunion of former Ladybugs, and a membership drive for new Garden Club members.  If you wish to attend this meeting, you may call Membership Chairman Corinne Precup at 281.376.4718 and she will assist you in visiting with the Ladybugs.

Wonderful educational programs have been carefully planned for the following months:

October 27: “Propagating Plants,” Speaker: Joyce Nelsen.  For this meeting, you may bring your plants, and Joyce will  advise you about the best way to propagate them.

November 17: The program will be “Growing Roses in  Houston” presented by Baxter Williams, rose expert from the Houston Rose Society.

December 15 is the date set for the annual Holiday Luncheon. The Social Committee always makes this a memorable day.

These great programs are only a portion of what this active club produces.  The big emphasis for September will be the introduction of the new Ladybug Cookbook Favorites recipe book.  These beautiful books will be available initially by the September 11 “End of Summer” event at the Community Center.  Then again, the $11 cookbooks will be sold at the September 22 meeting of the Ladybugs.  These practical, appealing books will make great Christmas gifts for all the potential chefs in your life.  Plus, you will be financially assisting the Ladybugs in their community service projects.  See you in September!

Kathy Dodge presented $200 from the MNW Ladybugs Garden Club to Denise Novy, Director of Development, at Mercer Arboretum, donated toward the Children's Butterfly Sanctury.
