Memorial Northwest Ladybugs Garden Club News
The holidays took on an extra special glow because of our neighborhood’s careful efforts to decorate the outside of their homes with lights, garland, and festive features. The overall effect was very welcoming to all who drove through our neighborhood during those delightful weeks. Three outstanding houses were chosen as the best in their section by the MNW Ladybugs members who took the time and effort to judge front yards on December 12, 2011. Many thanks go to all those who participated in making the season so merry.
On December 21, a large group of Ladybugs met at the Champions Country Club for a lovely Christmas luncheon. Special appreciation goes to Ladybug, Marianne Steinbacher, who arranged for the garden club to use that beautiful facility under her club membership privileges. The sparkling decorations everywhere added great delight and beauty to an already fabulous luncheon. Ladybug, Sarah Staines educated the ladies about the British Christmas favor, crackers, placed by every plate. She demonstrated how to pull the twisted paper apart properly and what to look for on the inside. Laughter rang everywhere as the women followed Sarah’s instructions and discovered the surprises in each cracker. Social Chairmen, Kathy Dodge and Gloria Hemeyer, orchestrated the entire, successful event. The final fun they planned that morning included the annual Christmas ornament exchange followed by the colorful group photo. It was truly a fabulous party.
One of the many special projects the club will be doing at the first of the year 2012 is making a donation to the Edible Green Garden Project, Special Project Chairman, Corinne Precup announced at the December board meeting. Workshop Chairman, Cheryl Robinson reminded the ladies of the workshop, “Flower Arranging 101 and More” offered to club members in early February to help them prepare for the formal flower show on February 22 at Diane Payne’s house. As usual the Ladybugs are very busy this year promoting good gardening and floral design in Memorial Northwest. If you wish to visit a meeting, all you need to do is call Valerie Hollingshead, and ask her about the details. She will love to help you attend.
